Chucky Atkins Gets Slammed by Ref, Video. The poster child for NBA journeymen, Chucky Atkins, played for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 04-05 season. At some point during that season he had a decent game. This was so out of the ordinary that this ref, Ron Garretson, was prompted to say, “Don’t Take this the wrong way. I never knew you were that good. I mean that that good.“ Wow! It is a good thing that Chucky did not take this the wrong way. Chucky could have gotten his feelings hurt by Ron. ![]()

It wasn't a backhanded compliment at all. The extra "that" made all of the difference.
A translation:
"I never knew you were that good, I mean that you were really (maybe add another really) good"
Chucky never took it the wrong way either as he agreed that this was his big break.
