Barkley, Magic, Dr J, D Wade, Old School, My Faves Commercial

Barkley, Magic, Dr J, D Wade, Old School, My Faves Commercial. I think this might be my favorite “My Faves” T-Mobile commercials. Dr J, Magic Johnson, and Charles Barkley are featured in a new video game called “Old School“. You get to play the old school players when they’re old.
Dr J looks like he could still get out there and play, but the skin tight leotard is not too flattering for Chucky and Magic. Speaking of the Chuckster, with all of his recent problems, do you think this is the last T-Mobile commercial he will ever do? It is possible.

[...] Awful Announcing is reporting that Charles Barkley is dropped from the T Mobile Ads, so this will be the last one you will see. [...]

April 22nd, 2009 @ 4:47 pm
Definitely not phil is 6 foot 9 and not using a walker.
April 23rd, 2009 @ 5:53 pm
It is probably Bob Cousy but some people argue that it's Frank Layden which would make no sense cuz Frank Layden never played, he coached.
April 23rd, 2009 @ 10:44 pm
Love the commercial. I think the old guy in the walker is Phil Jackson. Anybody know who it is?
April 26th, 2009 @ 12:15 pm
I think it’s John Wooden. He is currently using a walker…and check out the big ears…
April 26th, 2009 @ 3:13 pm
My husband thinks that it is Phil Jackson due to his hip replacement and they are playing on that. I am not so sure.
April 27th, 2009 @ 10:39 am
My guess is seventy-nine year old Bob Cousy. He is about that size, grey hair with glasses and the ears match.
April 27th, 2009 @ 8:00 pm
It’s Bill Walton
April 27th, 2009 @ 8:54 pm
I think the guy in the walker was meant to be John Wooden, although I doubt he would have done it in person. Would have been nice had he also told Barkley “And don’t call me a dinosaur!”
April 27th, 2009 @ 10:37 pm
I’d like to slap all you people for saying Phil Jackson!
April 28th, 2009 @ 8:36 pm
Me too celticpride!
April 30th, 2009 @ 8:52 pm
It is Frank Layden!!! End of discussion. I am 100% sure. Anybody that knows who Frank Layden…definitely knows that it is Frank Layden.
April 30th, 2009 @ 11:16 pm
Frank Layden is dead. I think it is Jack Ramsey. How can we find out for sure?
May 1st, 2009 @ 3:48 pm
My whole family says that old school guy is Phil Jackson, me and my husband said that’s not him Phil is too tall, even he bends down he is too tall compare to guy in the commercial!! Who is he I am so keen to know… when are we going to find out?
May 2nd, 2009 @ 7:33 pm
I believe the “old man” is Dolph Schayes.
May 3rd, 2009 @ 11:02 am
Phil Jackson is in his young 60s, stately looking, tall and ON TV ALL THE TIME DURING THE PLAYOFFS. How in the everloving world could you think that guy is Phil Jackson? Geez, folks, read the comments above, watch a Lakers game and see the guy on the sidelines stalking back and forth and stop making stupid comments like "It's Phil Jackson." It's more likely it's your grandpa or even your mom than Phil Jackson so, seriously, stop.
May 3rd, 2009 @ 1:09 pm
Jerry Colangelo
May 3rd, 2009 @ 3:52 pm
Can someone please confirm if this guy on the walker is indeed is Phil Jackson, you will be ending an on going agurment with me and my honey.
Thanks
May 3rd, 2009 @ 4:33 pm
Frank Layden is alive and well. Who is the old guy? Come’on folks where is the brain power? Who is it?
May 3rd, 2009 @ 5:10 pm
Maybe Frank Layden, he is not dead, I see him at Jazz games – (not with a headband). Can’t someone tell us for sure??
May 3rd, 2009 @ 11:18 pm
I think it’s John Woodin.
May 4th, 2009 @ 6:05 pm
It's me guys I'm 100 percent positive. If it's not me though, it's probably Moses Malone.
May 4th, 2009 @ 7:19 pm
it’s Phil Jackson, it’s a commerical guys, old school remember, phil jackson for sure
May 4th, 2009 @ 10:10 pm
Could the old guy be Dave Cowan?
May 4th, 2009 @ 10:43 pm
Its Jerry Colangelo
May 5th, 2009 @ 1:02 pm
It's Joey Buttafuoco
May 5th, 2009 @ 2:52 pm
I really want to know too who this guy is, for sure TS NOT PHIL JACKSON! STOP IT WITH THAT….frank layden is a good guess and so is Dolph Schayes, so is Cousy…my wife ses no way Schayes cause he was a big man…layden was really fat, so i dont think it's him…cousy is best bet, is he still alive? cant someone twitter barkley or one of the producers and figure this out?
May 5th, 2009 @ 2:54 pm
and it isnt wooden either, absolutely sure of that…
May 5th, 2009 @ 2:43 pm
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry after reading these comments about Phil Jackson.
Maybe it’s Santa Claus
May 5th, 2009 @ 5:12 pm
So who is the guy who is walking by with the walker
May 5th, 2009 @ 6:39 pm
If one more person says this is Phil Jackson I am going to kill a kitten. Seriously anyone who thinks this is Phil Jackson or thinks this is someone trying to impersonate an old Phil Jackson is an idiot and shouldn’t be allowed on the internet.
May 5th, 2009 @ 10:05 pm
It’s Phil Jackson. So what if he’s using a walker? You guys live so close to Hollywood and you’ve never heard of a prop? or makeup?
May 5th, 2009 @ 11:44 pm
my guess is bob cousy, but how and when do we find out?
May 6th, 2009 @ 1:38 am
Thanks for all the comments. Remember to check out more vids on the blog. Sweet NBA commercials is one of my specialties.
If my opinion matters, I think it is nobody. I think it is an actor that is representing old white guy basketball.
I am white so I can say that
Thanks again for the comments.
May 6th, 2009 @ 3:08 pm
I've been wondering too because I think its the 1st NBA rookie of the yr from 52-53 Don Meineke. He subs in my golf league sometimes, cant wait to see him to ask.
May 6th, 2009 @ 3:30 pm
I think the guy with the walker in the commercial is John Havlicek.
May 6th, 2009 @ 3:40 pm
OK YOU FOLKS MUST BE UNDER 3O AND VERY DUMB TO BOOT. PHIL JACKSON THE LAKERS COACH, OR BOB COUSY OR JERRY WEST ITS NOT, THAT GUYS IS 80 SOMETHING AND LIKE 6FT 3-4" WITH THE WALKER!!.SO PLEASE SOMEBODY OVER 50YRS OLD ENLIGHTEN US WITH A BETTER CHOICE THAT THESE KIDS. I'M 42 AND KNOW ITS BETTER THAN WHATS BEEN POSTED SO FAR.
May 6th, 2009 @ 6:39 pm
its def bob cousy good try. the people sayin its phil jackson and the commisioner should definately find a new sport to watch cuase there slow
May 6th, 2009 @ 8:37 pm
No No ….it’s Phil for sure…..kittens
May 7th, 2009 @ 3:50 am
I think you hit it right on. As a matter of fact, I thought that it actually WAS Wooden, not someone playing him. Hmmm.
May 7th, 2009 @ 7:00 am
Dolph Schayes or Bob Cousy for sure…..
I saw that someone said Havlicek, but I don't think he's using a walker yet… only 69 yrs old.
I tried searching to find out for sure, but i can't find any info.
May 7th, 2009 @ 7:26 am
DA900S…..
It definetly CAN be Bob Cousy, he's 77 & who cares how tall he was when he was playing….. He's 77 & using a walker, of course he's lost a few inches – you can see in the commercial the old man is hunched over.
To all those saying Phil Jackson, are you just blind? Phil Jackson isn't even close and it can't be Jerry West or David Stern. I don't think it's John Wooden either.
May 7th, 2009 @ 7:41 pm
It’s me. If it’s not me, it’s probably Phil Jackson or Moses Malone.
May 8th, 2009 @ 9:57 pm
It is Ben Stein.
May 9th, 2009 @ 6:42 am
The old guy is Sonny Smith. He coached Charles at Auburn.
May 9th, 2009 @ 4:43 pm
I'm really enjoying all the speculation regarding the guy cruising by on the walker. Bob Cousy and Dave Cowan are good stabs in the dark, but . . . if you listen to the voice, I think you'll pick up a tinge of Boston street brogue. Of course he's acting, but my Sam Adams six says it's Tommy Heinsohn. Game over!
May 9th, 2009 @ 7:42 pm
Cousy!
May 10th, 2009 @ 4:12 pm
I’m a Laker fan, I see Phil Jackson all the time. I’m miffed at those above who say you’re stupid if you think it’s Phil Jackson. It looks like his head, doesn’t look like most of the other people mentioned above like John Wooden or Frank Layden. The only reason I don’t think it’s Phil Jackson is because of the height. But you people saying that it can’t be him because of the walker and because he’s hunched over, like has been said, it’s a commercial, it’s acting. They might have found a way to make him look shorter.
May 10th, 2009 @ 9:00 pm
Its not me, I am black you dufuss. Its Ashton Kutcher dressed up like an old man!!
May 11th, 2009 @ 10:56 am
Phil Jackson?? LMAOOOO come on now… i cant believe yall were having serious arguments on whether it was phil jackson or not…or david stern for that matter
May 11th, 2009 @ 11:26 am
I actually know who it is..He is a friend of mine that lives in Hallandale FL. His name is Stan and he is 79. This commercial was shot a few months ago, but T-Mobile did not release it due to Barkley's arrest in Miami (during the shooting)for DUI..Stan and his wife have been in over 100 productions over the years and are fun and funny people. He also will be appearing in the new movie Bachelor Party II which was shot in Hollywood FL. It was too funny to read all the speculation of who it was, but this is the real info!!
May 11th, 2009 @ 11:02 am
I am not sure who this old man is….would really like to know….however I think this is the best commercial I have seen and love watching it…..it will never get old in my book…..Somebody please find out who it really is
May 11th, 2009 @ 3:29 pm
anyone who thinks its Phil Jackson or David Stern or Red Auerbach has not pais attention to basketball for a long period of time
May 11th, 2009 @ 3:31 pm
Who Is the guy on the walker?
May 11th, 2009 @ 8:07 pm
That is DEFINITELY my dad, Phil Jackson. He took off some time in the middle of the season in order to shoot the commercial and they used lots of makeup in order to help him look older. He borrowed the walker from some old lady outside. I am absolutely 100% positive that it is Phil Jackson.
If it's not my dad, maybe it's Manute Bol.
May 11th, 2009 @ 7:50 pm
I Think its Phil Jackson, My Husband think so
too…..My son-ini-law says it Sonny Smith,
Barkley’s (old) Coach from Auburn
May 11th, 2009 @ 8:32 pm
Great commercial!
May 11th, 2009 @ 8:32 pm
Hey carla maloan…pretty sure I was the only Malone ever mentioned in these posts…and everyone knows it wasn’t you. I’m now only 80% sure it as me now…I’m starting to think it is elton john.
May 11th, 2009 @ 8:53 pm
Great commercial – I love it!!! Like everyone else, I’d sure like to know who the old guy cruising on the walker is.
May 11th, 2009 @ 9:33 pm
it’s sonny smith, barkley’s old coach at auburn
May 11th, 2009 @ 11:29 pm
It’s either Doc Rivers or Phil Jackson. It’s hard to tell from the angle.
May 12th, 2009 @ 9:47 pm
YO MR. I KNOW!!!
DOES STAN – HAVE A LAST NAME???
May 13th, 2009 @ 10:23 am
Who is the guy playing Dr J? And who's playing Magic?
May 13th, 2009 @ 5:12 pm
Yes, Stan has a last name! I do not want to give it out on the internet without his permission though. If you want him for another acting job, I can give him your contact info if you provide it. He talks/sounds exactly the same in real life as he does in the commerical. He worked for the post office in NY before retiring to FL. His wife was a standup comic way back when as well..
It cracks me up to read all the ideas of who it is..
May 13th, 2009 @ 8:27 pm
sonny smith, barkley’s coach at auburn
May 13th, 2009 @ 9:13 pm
I believe it’s Hubie Brown
May 13th, 2009 @ 10:39 pm
Cousy
May 15th, 2009 @ 9:58 am
I agree that it is an actor & not an old timer basketball player. Which is just WRONG! They should've used an old-timer. All the money these guys make now they owe to them.
May 17th, 2009 @ 3:59 am
not phil jackson said, "If one more person says this is Phil Jackson I am going to kill a kitten. Seriously anyone who thinks this is Phil Jackson or thinks this is someone trying to impersonate an old Phil Jackson is an idiot and shouldn’t be allowed on the internet."
I'm gonna say it's Phil Jackson just to get rid of a kitten. And,I agree about restricting access to the internet; we wouldn't want idiots on it, would we?
May 17th, 2009 @ 11:12 am
The man with the walker DEFINITELY IS Phil Jackson. It's his hair, his glasses, his nose, his ears, and certainly is his voice (with an exaggerated old man's cranky voice well acted.) The walker prop is a take-off on his bad hips. Homage to Phil for contributing his obvious acting talent to deliver the punchline in this terrific ad.
May 22nd, 2009 @ 9:14 pm
I live in Alabama. I have heard Sonny Smith's voice plenty of times. I have seen him on local TV. It is not him. It is just a paid actor.
May 23rd, 2009 @ 3:07 pm
It's NOT Phil Jackson. Haven't you ever heard him speak? His voice is much deeper than the old guy in the commercial. I wondered if it was one of the old Celtics, but I don't know for sure who it is…other than it's not Jackson.
May 23rd, 2009 @ 4:01 pm
Is it John Wooden?
May 23rd, 2009 @ 4:43 pm
It is definitely NOT Phil Jackson, John Wooden or Jerry West. I live in LA and see these guys all the time. It is NOT them. I think the Sonny Smith argument makes the most sense. That's why Sir Charles hangs up with a sigh when his old coach shows up and says he is taking him to the hole. Get it???
May 23rd, 2009 @ 7:04 pm
It’s Frank Layden. You guys can continue your Phil Jackson games and headache-inducing Cousy, Cowen, basically every tall guy that played in the 60s-70s, if you wish. Thank me later—better yet thank the board who told me this later.
May 24th, 2009 @ 8:18 am
it’s John McCain !!!
May 24th, 2009 @ 4:01 pm
I know it isn't Phil Jackson, but I am going to agree because I hate kittens a lot. I am pretty sure half the people saying it do not know who Phil Jackson is.
May 26th, 2009 @ 12:02 am
It’s me.
May 26th, 2009 @ 2:55 pm
I believe that the old guy is Pete Carrill, the old Priceton Coach who is currently working as an advisor for Sacramento. I may not have the spelling correct since it has been over 40 years since I played for Carrill at Easton High School.
May 26th, 2009 @ 7:41 pm
It’s not me.
The walker is a prop. It’s Phil Jackson
May 26th, 2009 @ 7:43 pm
its greg popovich
May 26th, 2009 @ 7:55 pm
It’s me. And I provided my own costume.
May 26th, 2009 @ 7:55 pm
you are all so wrong! it’s easy to see it’s Bob Petit, the first NBA player to reach 20,000 points and oh by the way… Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1970); NBA champion (1958); NBA MVP (1956, ’59); 10-time All-NBA First Team (1955-64); All-NBA second team (1965); Rookie of the Year (1955); One of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996).
May 27th, 2009 @ 4:50 am
It looks like either Yao Ming or Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.
May 27th, 2009 @ 2:33 pm
I THINK THE GUY IN THE WALKER LOOKS LIKE TOMMY LASORTA
May 28th, 2009 @ 11:57 am
I believe that the guy is Sonny Smith…or it’s gotta be Frank Layden. No way that it’s Phil Jackson…you sillies oughta know that…have you seen the size of ol Philly? Crazy peeps…he’s a darn giant in comparison to that guy in the commercial…very good commercial, but I really don’t think that tight outfit is very flattering to Chuckie…hahahahahaha……
May 28th, 2009 @ 3:07 pm
The old guy is Jerry Colangelo
May 28th, 2009 @ 5:05 pm
bachelor party II came out in 2008…try again…why would there be another bachelor party II in less than a year….Stan who??? he would love the attention if he is an actor,as you can see there are all kinds of people interested, it would get him more gigs…personally, I don't believe you..frank layden is my choice
May 28th, 2009 @ 8:04 pm
Not Wooden, that’s not his voice.
May 29th, 2009 @ 12:58 pm
It is my husband. No doubt!
May 29th, 2009 @ 3:13 pm
i think its havlicek
May 30th, 2009 @ 7:39 am
It's Sonny Smith, Barkley's old coach from Auburn
June 3rd, 2009 @ 11:19 pm
I think it's Phil Jackson—how can we find out?
June 3rd, 2009 @ 11:34 pm
looks kinda like Obama's deceased grandpa
June 4th, 2009 @ 3:23 pm
I think you are right- The great Bob Cousy !
June 4th, 2009 @ 3:41 pm
Like that guy said, its a paid actor. The voice is too pronounced and distinct to be otherwise. They probably assumed noone would check on it but they have. Not sure if its Jason Stanford White or not. He was the only "stan" listed in the credits. IMDB doesn't have a picture on him. Also, yes there are 2 Bachelor Party 2 movies and both were in 2008. If it was an NBA player I wouldve guess Dick McGuire though, but it's not.
June 4th, 2009 @ 8:29 pm
Ya’ll are so lame….It has to be the great Bob Cousy- He is the only one that offers that much confidence & game !
June 6th, 2009 @ 8:38 am
stan cohen
June 6th, 2009 @ 8:38 am
and yes, they SHOULD have used an old basketball guy
June 6th, 2009 @ 3:05 pm
His name is Stan Cortel, an actor from Ft. Lauderdale Florida (researched Ask.com)
June 9th, 2009 @ 5:27 pm
The man is Dave Cowens
June 9th, 2009 @ 10:17 pm
I want to know who the guy is in the walker,
Thanks,
Jay
June 10th, 2009 @ 11:56 am
Hi there sports fan’s , although i’m not sure what sport your a fan of; does’nt appear to be NBA basketball… not Bob Cousy , not Phil Jackson , not Dave Cowens , surprise raw deal or no , yes it’s true it’s your friend and mine, a briallant actor from FLA. ” Stan Cortel ” until we meet again sports fans…
June 11th, 2009 @ 11:47 am
Megan Fox. Definitely.
June 15th, 2009 @ 5:15 pm
Yes it is Stan Cohen aka Stan Cortel..Didn’t I tell you all that on May 11th!!
