EVERY TUESDAY David Chalk, renowned, acclaimed and beloved baseball writer from 7th Inning Stache, Bugs&Cranks, SportsUntapped and occasionally Big League Stew throws up Eight Random Videos to entertain and/or enlighten right here on NESW SPORTS.

Most folks would agree the NFL Pro Bowl is pretty crappy. Moving it back to Hawaii and after the Super Bowl where at least it’s your last chance to watch football for six months would be a start, but I’ve got a few fabulous and foolproof ideas to make it the showcase extravaganza it needs to be. Basically they should just steal from the NBA.

Brilliant idea #1:

NFL Three-Point Contest!

How freakin’ awesome would that be? The NFL’s leading scorers running around trying to kick 25 three-point field goals from different hash marks and distances? And for added pressure and viewing excitement, every fifth ball is a gold-colored money ball that they have to drop kick Flutie-style!

And if that’s not enough improvement over the NBA, think of this: you invite not just the NFL’s best kickers, but the NFL’s best holders too! FAN-TASTIC!

Brilliant Idea #2:

NFL Slam Dunk Contest!

The goal post dunk, which I remember going back to I think Webster Slaughter, is the NFL’s most exciting touchdown celebration and yet a relatively unexplored source of creativity. While perhaps not as amazing as dunking a basketball on ice, dunking a football in full pads is still pretty gosh darn impressive.

Here’s a brief video glimpse of what the future could hold:

Obviously that should be enough to make the NFL Pro Bowl the greatest All-Star Extravaganza in the history of Western civilization, but for an added touch of brilliance you could also bring back the NFL’s Fastest Man contest and throw that in with the Three-Point Contest and the Dunk Contest.
