8R Videos 19: Canadian Obama, Canada’s First Black Prime Minister

Posted on 16 March 2010 by David Chalk

EVERY TUESDAY David Chalk, renowned, acclaimed and beloved baseball writer from 7th Inning Stache, Bugs&Cranks, and occasionally Big League Stew throws up Eight Random Videos to entertain and/or enlighten right here on NESW SPORTS.

After my recent tryout with the Toronto Blue Jays, I did some thinking about Canada.  Sure they got their health care, but they botched the Olympics and they’ve never elected a person of color to their highest political office (or any political office as far as I know).  In an effort to help bring our neighbors to the North into the 21st Century, I have come up with eight worthy candidates to be The Canadian Obama.

1. Grant Fuhr

2. Willie O’Ree

Note the typo in this Canadian MTV video.

3. Anson Carter

4. Kevin Weekes

(Audio of this is priceless)

5. Ray Emery

6. Mike Marson

The second African-American to play in the NHL — scored 16 goals as a 19-year-old rookie. He’s now a third-degree black belt.

7. Jarome Iginla

8. Evander Kane

There was an indian elected as premier of BC, he’s now in parliament. Lots of colored people appointed, the current governor-general was born in haiti. lots of other minorities have held lots of other positions, but none have held the top seat. The thing is that Prime Minister is not elected directly. It is the leader of the largest party in the house. As far as I remember, no minorities have ever run for the leadership of any major party. There must first be a candidate to vote for, before they can be elected. That’s why colored people in high positions in Canada are often appointed or in cabinet.
